Hong Kong Young Writers Award 2023

3 students (3D Ng Dick Hei, 3D Yip Yat Ju Isaac and 4D Woo Chung Shun) participated in the Hong Kong Young Writers Award 2023, with Woo Chung Shun awarded the Honorable Mention Certificate

 

UNESCO UNSDGs Debating Competition

The motion this year is about whether genetically modified food is the solution to world hunger. Students representing our school are 4D To Pak Leong, 4D Wong Yat Long and 4D Woo Chung Shun.

 

74th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival

Total number of student participants: 32

Awards:

--1 came first, 3 came second and 5 came third in Solo Verse

53.1% of students attaining Merit.

 

Friendly debate with St. Paul’s College

The motion was ‘People should be fined for not recycling’. All members of the debate team joined the activity. 







2021-2022
UNESCO SDGs Debating Competition

The motion this year is about promoting sustainable development goals. In the midst of the epidemic, the debate was held using a pre-recorded video mode. Students representing our school included: 3A10 Lam Hung Hei, 3C8 Fu Ki Chun, 3C24 Woo Chung Shun, 3D2 Cheung Ka Chun, 3D14 To Pak Leong and 3D17 Wong Yat Long.

Total number of student participants: 9

Awards:

--1 came first, 1 came second and 1 came third in Solo Verse

100% of students attaining Merit.

 

Life-wide learning programme promoting an entrepreneurial spirit

The English Department has been collaborating with the BAFS, Economics Departments and Careers Committee since 2019-2020 in organizing the life-wide learning programme. This year, 4 students in F.4D were nominated to participate in a 7-week online entrepreneurship course offered by EtonX, a wholly owned trading subsidiary of Eton College.

 

External writing competitions

5 students (2D Ng Dick Hei, 3C Woo Chun Shun, 3D Cheung Ka Chun, 3D Huang Yu Lun and 3D To Pak Leong, Carlson) and 1 student (4A Ng Wing Tung) participated in the 2nd One Health COVID-19 Winter Writing Competition organized by the City University of Hong Kong and 22nd Lions International Youth Exchange Scholarship Essay Competition respectively. 

Inter-class School Hunt 

The aim of the School Hunt held by the English Society on 1st June 2022 is to give F.1-3 students a chance to get to know more about the school campus and practise their English skills by taking part in a range of interactive games.

2020-2021

External competitions

  • 3 students (2 from F.5C and 1 from F.2D) joined the “Tung Wah Group of Hospitals “Good People, Good Deeds: English Writing Competition 2021”. 

  • 4 students (F.4D Liu Cheuk Heng, F.5B Chow Colun, Yiu Hok Chi Jeff and Yiu Pui Kwan Angelina) took part in the HKU Rule of Law Essay Competition.

  • Two F.3D students joined an online debate competition entitled ‘The 2nd International Debate Competition 2021’ organized by Seechange Education on 8th August 2021, with one training workshop provided by the organiser. F.3D Yiu Yan Kei was awarded the Speaker Award.

  • 9 students from F.2 joined the 22nd HKPTU Debating Competition

2019-2020

External writing competitions

  • 2 students (F.6D Jessica Tin and F.5C Chan Choi Wan Emily) took part in the HKU Rule of Law Essay Competition.

  • 3 students (F.6D Poon Yui Hang, F.5C Samaniego Paul William Reyes and F.5C Chan Choi Wan Emily) took part in the ‘Love is All Around’ essay competition organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists.

  • 9 students from F.1 to F.5 took part in the ‘Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Good People, Good Deeds: English Writing Competition 2019’.



Friendly debates

Out NET, My. Shipley, organized two friendly debates, one on 6th November 2019 against Cheung Chuk Shan College, and the other one on 17th January 2020 against Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College.

21st HKPTU Debating Competition

3 students (F.1C Dong Xiao Nuo, F.1D Ho Yui Ka and F.1D Wong Yat Long) took part in the first debate on 6th December 2019 on the motion ‘Space exploration is the duty of developed countries’ whereas 3 other students (F.1C Dong Xiao Nuo, F.1D To Pak Leong and F.1D Cheng Ka Chun) took part in the second debate on 17th January 2020 on the motion ‘Social media is good for teenagers’.

 

71st Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival

Total number of student participants: 11

Awards:

--1 came first in Solo Verse, 1 came second in Prose Reading and 2 came third in Dramatic Duologue

54.5% of students received Certificates of Merit and one attained proficiency.

 

2018-19

External Competitions

ACEA Hong Kong Primary and Secondary School English Writing Competition 2018-2019

7 students (3 from F.5B and 4 from F.5D) participated in the competition organized by Synergy Education Provider Co Ltd.; 

5D Chu Yiu On was awarded the Most Creative Writer (Merit) in the senior secondary section.

 

Hong Kong Top Story 2018 Competition organized by the RTHK & Hong Kong Free Press and PEN Hong Kong

Nine students from F.3 to 5 took part in it.



‘21st Century Cup’ National English Speaking Competition

Three F.5 students took part in it, with F.5B Leung Sze Ching Jerrie and F.5D Chan Chun Wing successfully getting into the final round, which was held on 19th January 2019. 

70th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival

Total number of student participants: 26

Hong Kong Young Writers Award

2 students, Lincoln Tso (F.5B) and Jessica Tin (F.4D), joined the Hong Kong Young Writers Award this year, with each writing a 3000-word story.

 

‘21st Century Cup’ National English Speaking Competition,

Michael Mak (F.5D) took part in the ‘21st Century Cup’ National English Speaking Competition, and he successfully got into the final round which was held on 3rd February 2018. 

 

English Public Speaking Contest 2018

4 students (Franchesca De Luna 4B, Russell Tam 5B, Isaac Wu 5D and Anson Wong 5D) joined the English Public Speaking Contest 2018 organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.

Budding Poets Competition

3 students (Hui Cheuk Yan, Jessica Tin and Melissa Yau) joined the Budding Poets Competition organized by the NET section of the EDB.

 

2016-17

Sino Junior Reporter Programme organized by the South China Morning Post

4D Michael Mak Chi Chiu won 1st runner-up in the programme.

ACEA Hong Kong Primary and Secondary School English Writing Competition 2016-2017

5 students (4 from F.3 and 1 from F.2) participated in the competition.

Winner: 3D Jessica Tin receiving Merit in the Best Writer (junior secondary division)

 

Hong Kong Young Writers Awards 2017

5B Lee Ting Kwan was enlisted as one of the finalists and his work was in the anthology of outstanding competition entries.

4D Michael Mak Chi Chiu received commendation for his high quality of writing.

68th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival

Total number of student participants: 23

Awards:

--1 pair of students came first in Dramatic Duologue

--2 students came second in Solo Verse

-- 2 students came third in Solo Verse.

73.9% of students attaining Merit.

2015-16

Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition

Our English Debating Team (4B Lee Ting Kwan, 5D Enoch Ng and Gilbert Chiu) won the 1st runner-up in the regional finals in the HKSSDC

ACEA Hong Kong Primary and Secondary School English Writing Competition 2015-2016

The competition was organized by Synergy Education Provider Co Ltd.

Winners: 2C Tracy Lo Lok Sum attaining Merit in the Best Writer (junior secondary division)

  4B Lee Ting Kwan awarded the  Most Creative Writer (senior secondary division)
